A Night of Music and Emotion at the 'Été des Oudayas' Festival
The 14th edition of the International Arts and Culture Festival, known as 'Été des Oudayas,' concluded on Wednesday at the Bouregreg corniche in Rabat, with a vibrant evening filled with music and heartfelt tributes. This year's festival showcased a diverse range of musical styles over three nights, from traditional Tarab songs to Gnaoua, culminating in a concert dedicated entirely to the rich tapestry of Moroccan popular music.
The night commenced with a captivating performance by Salaheddine Majdouli, a winner of the popular television show 'Najm Chaabi.' His rendition of Aïta, alongside classic pieces from the popular repertoire, enchanted the audience and set a festive tone for the evening. Following Majdouli, the 'Touam' troupe took the stage. With over twenty years of experience in preserving and promoting the Aïta art form, they thrilled the crowd with selections from Morocco's musical heritage.
The highlight of the night was the much-anticipated appearance of Abdelmoughit, a celebrated figure in Moroccan popular music and a reference in the Aïta Marsaouia genre. His performance included several of his well-known songs, which were joyously sung along by an enthusiastic audience. In a moment of recognition, Youssef Radi, the Regional Director of Culture for Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, presented Abdelmoughit with the 'Sheikh of Chaabi Prize,' honoring his significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of this musical art form.
Honoring Legends of Moroccan Entertainment
The evening also featured a heartfelt tribute to Rachid Allali, a prominent television host and producer. He was awarded the 'Golden Microphone Prize' for his impactful work in Moroccan media, particularly for his show 'Najm Chaabi,' which focuses on discovering new talents in the realm of Moroccan popular music. The award was presented to him by artist Nasr Megri, while Naim Chamaou, the Secretary General of the National Music Council and a painter, paid homage to Allali's remarkable career in the Moroccan media landscape.
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 14th edition of the 'Été des Oudayas' Festival took place from August 9 to 12 at the Bouregreg corniche, organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication in collaboration with the National Music Committee, a member of the International Music Council (CIM) and an official partner of UNESCO, with support from the Wilaya of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
