Celebrating Poetry and Reading: A Cultural Event in Marrakech

Embracing Poetry and Literary Engagement in Marrakech

The upcoming cultural event in Marrakech promises to be a vibrant celebration of poetry and reading, featuring a comprehensive program aimed at fostering a national reading initiative. This includes a foundational presentation within the "Seminars: Towards a New National Reading Plan," highlighting the initiatives of the Dar Poetry in Marrakech to promote reading awareness. Attendees can look forward to a model workshop focusing on the "Experience of Poetry Writing Workshops at Dar Poetry in Marrakech: Nine Seasons Celebrating Poetry and Fostering Love for Reading and Books." As the event unfolds, it will culminate in the thirteenth session of the "Poetic Shores" program, featuring esteemed poets such as Safia Azeddine, Ismail El-Waariabi, and Idris Rqibi, alongside a musical performance by the Tarwa N Tiniri group.

This poetic and artistic event reflects Dar Poetry's commitment to connecting with various regions across Morocco, particularly in the southern areas, by organizing programs that align with cultural and poetic events while embracing multiple generations, experiences, and sensitivities within Moroccan poetry.

On Thursday, April 29, 2026, at the Heritage Preservation and Employment Center (Kasbah Taourirt), Dar Poetry will present its experience of "Nine Years in Establishing and Promoting Reading Actions" as part of the seminar series titled "Towards a New National Reading Plan." This presentation will include an overview of the poetry writing workshops tailored for children, youth, and young adults, emphasizing the love of poetry, reading, and books.

Dr. Abdellatif Skhiri, a noted critic and poet, will lead a practical workshop aimed at youth and reading club mentors within educational institutions. The activities will continue on the following Thursday, April 30, with a closing ceremony for the event, which will again feature the thirteenth session of "Poetic Shores" with the participation of the aforementioned poets, rounded off by a performance from the Tarwa N Tiniri group.

This cultural and artistic event is part of Dar Poetry's ongoing efforts to connect with the six southern regions of Morocco, further expanding its outreach to more remote areas. Over the past few years, Dar Poetry has been dedicated to bringing poetry into public spaces as part of its renewed strategy aimed at embracing linguistic diversity and Morocco's rich cultural tapestry. Previous programs have included initiatives in less accessible areas such as Ijoukak, the House of Al-Mu’tamid in Aghmat, the vibrant Ourika Garden, and various communities including Toubkal, Ashmiran, and Amzourat, extending to other regions with a rich cultural and poetic program that has benefitted local audiences.

This poetic and cultural event is part of the ninth cultural and poetic season organized by Dar Poetry in Marrakech, in collaboration with regional and provincial directorates of the Ministry of Culture, reflecting a continuous effort to connect with other cities and regions in the kingdom while celebrating the diversity of Moroccan poetry and its various linguistic traditions.
