Celebrating Poets at Douar Ouled Berka: A Cultural Gathering in Marrakech

Honoring Academic Critic and Translator Abd al-Majid Juhfa

The Dar of Poetry in Marrakech recently held a significant event to honor the esteemed researcher and translator, Dr. Abd al-Majid Juhfa, during the opening of the sixth edition of the "Integrity in Poetry" festival. This year's festivities commenced in Douar Ouled Berka, located in the region of Ouled Tamim, and will continue across deserts and mountains, reaching various villages and communities. Dr. Juhfa, born in 1959, has dedicated his life to exploring profound knowledge and has played an instrumental role in leading the Laboratory of Literature, Linguistics, and Translation. He has contributed significantly to the field through his numerous publications and translations, which delve into the realms of linguistics and cultural semantics, enriching human culture with his scholarly work.

Poets by the Banks of Oued Am el-Rabii

As part of the festivities, the first stop of the "Integrity in Poetry" event was organized in collaboration with the Association for Solidarity and Environment in Douar Ouled Khalifa, highlighting the exceptional initiative by the Dar of Poetry in Marrakech to spotlight Douar Ouled Berka as a venue for this literary celebration. The event not only honored the influential cultural and critical figure, Dr. Juhfa, but also emphasized the thoughtful choice of location to impart a symbolic, cultural, and intellectual significance to the concept of recognition.

At this unique gathering, poet Zina Bouhiya, a local from the region and a member of the Dar of Poetry in Marrakech, orchestrated the poetic segment titled "Embellished Words." This segment featured several poets who shared their experiences and showcased the rich heritage of poetic discourse that draws from rural traditions. Notable poets like Halima Mujahid, Hamid Benkhi, and Abdullah Shouka captivated the audience with their verses celebrating women and the written word, all set against the picturesque backdrop of Oued Am el-Rabii. Additionally, the Hamada Benjrir troupe performed a segment inspired by Moroccan heritage, seamlessly blending poetry with traditional dance.

The Dar of Poetry in Marrakech reiterated that this cultural and poetic event is part of its broader initiative to connect with the six regions under its purview, reinforcing a culture of proximity between creators and audiences, particularly in areas distanced from central hubs like Marrakech. This commitment to cultural outreach signifies a pivotal step in promoting artistic expression and appreciation among diverse communities.
