Children of Jerusalem Participate in the "Lighthouse of Peace" Camp in Morocco
On August 22, 2026, children from Jerusalem engaged in a variety of cultural, sports, and maritime experiences during the seventeenth session of the "Lighthouse of Peace" camp, hosted in the beautiful Moroccan cities of Mdiq, Tetouan, and Tangier. This initiative, organized by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, the head of the Jerusalem Committee, aims to strengthen ties between the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples.
This past Saturday, the Royal Sailing Club at the Tangier Marina welcomed the Jerusalem children, who enjoyed a scenic boat ride on well-equipped vessels adorned with Moroccan and Palestinian flags, symbolizing the enduring friendship between both nations. Prior to this maritime excursion, the children experienced an engaging sports day in Mdiq on Friday, where they visited the Royal Golf Club. Here, they learned about the different components of the golf course, ranging from the teeing ground to the fairways and the rough, culminating in the green. Professional coaches provided fundamental lessons on how to use various types of golf clubs, allowing the children to take turns hitting the balls.
The experience extended beyond just learning the basics of the game; it also introduced the children to the etiquette of golf, which emphasizes respect for fellow players and the course, as well as discipline, honesty, politeness, and sportsmanship, ensuring that the game is safe and enjoyable for all participants and spectators alike.
Following their time at the golf club, the children ventured to the old city of Tetouan, where they wandered through its ancient alleys and discovered the unique features of Moroccan architecture, including intricate zellij tilework, authentic mosaics, as well as wood and brass craftsmanship. The details of the old city evoked a sense of familiarity for the children as they navigated its streets and markets. The fragrances of orange blossom water, spices, grape leaves, and fresh vegetables reminded them of the vibrant atmosphere of the historic markets in the old city of Jerusalem.
The group concluded their visit to Tetouan with a tour of the "Northern Market," a solidarity market designed to promote local handicrafts. Here, the children explored various local products, including medicinal and aromatic herbs, beauty products, canned goods, oils, and honey, alongside traditional crafts and pottery. Many of the children, along with their mentors, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for this generous initiative, which King Mohammed VI, the head of the Jerusalem Committee, has committed to annually, allowing Jerusalem children to visit Morocco and experience the richness of its landscape, the beauty of its nature, and the hospitality of its people.
On Thursday evening, the children of Jerusalem also enjoyed a fun-filled night at an amusement park in Tangier, where they shared a family atmosphere with Moroccan families. They delighted in riding roller coasters and swings before transitioning to electronic games and water slides, all set against a backdrop of joy and celebration.
Since its inception in 2008, the Jerusalem Children’s Camp has become one of the annual social and educational programs of the agency, benefiting 850 children from Jerusalem along with 85 mentors to date.
