Controversy Surrounds Final Match Venue for Promotion Playoff
In a significant development within the Fes-Meknes football division, clubs participating in the premier amateur league have expressed their dissatisfaction with the choice of the Rmeila Stadium in Taounate as the venue for the upcoming final playoff match. Scheduled to kick off at 5 PM this Sunday, the match will see Nasr Fassi face off against Chabab Ras Ajiri from Hajeb. The president of Chabab Ras Ajiri has formally lodged a complaint with the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, voicing concerns that the selected venue does not uphold the principle of fairness between the two teams.
He highlighted that the stadium is located 190 kilometers away from his club's base, in stark contrast to only 87 kilometers for Nasr Fassi. This substantial difference in travel distance, according to him, grants a distinct advantage to the opposing team, facilitating easier travel, reducing fatigue, and allowing for a larger fan presence, all of which contradicts the principles of neutrality and equality crucial for a final match.
The club president has urgently requested the federation's president to intervene and halt the current scheduling, advocating for the selection of a neutral stadium that ensures equitable distance between both teams. He emphasized the importance of fairness and equitable competition, hoping for a resolution that upholds the integrity of the sport and protects the rights of all participating clubs. This sentiment was echoed by the Meknes Clubs Association, which also issued a statement expressing discontent over the choice of Taounate for the match, asserting that its proximity to Fes does not meet the necessary standards for equal opportunity between the finalists.
The association noted the lack of a broader participatory approach in determining the venue for such a crucial match, pointing out that alongside organizational factors, the sporting considerations related to balance between the teams should also be prioritized. They stressed that equal opportunity should be a fundamental value in such decisive competitions.
