Concerns Grow Over Dangerous Highway Section in Taza
In recent years, the highway connecting Taza and Fes, particularly near Oued Amellil, has been the site of numerous tragic accidents, resulting in the loss of 47 lives and injuring many others. The segment of road in question has once again made headlines following another serious incident involving a fuel transport truck that veered off course, narrowly avoiding further casualties thanks to a stroke of luck. Reports from various drivers, gathered by Alhadat TV, indicate that this section, specifically between Bab Merzouka and the toll station west of Taza, is notorious for its hazardous conditions, characterized by steep declines and dangerous potholes.
In just a two-week span, six accidents occurred at this very location, highlighting the urgent need for improvements. Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics, and Water, addressed these concerns during a parliamentary session, asserting that the highway was built to international specifications. However, many local residents and professionals dispute this claim, arguing that the ongoing issues with safety and maintenance suggest otherwise. The growing public outcry for action to enhance the safety of this vital route continues to gain momentum, as travelers remain apprehensive about using the road.
