Rising Concerns in the Chicken Farming Sector
On Wednesday, the Moroccan newspaper "الأحداث المغربية" reported on the increasing unease expressed by the executive office of the National Association of Chicken Farmers regarding the ongoing collapse of selling prices at farms. This persistent decline is leading to escalating losses that threaten the viability of numerous producers within the sector. The association has warned of the looming risk of bankruptcy faced by the broiler chicken farming industry in Morocco. In light of these troubling developments, the association has urgently called upon the relevant authorities to intervene in order to mitigate the losses incurred by farmers. They also demand a thorough investigation into the irregularities within the marketing system and the implementation of monitoring mechanisms to combat speculation and monopolistic practices that disrupt the normal functioning of the market.
Incidents and Community Concerns
In another report by "المساء", it was revealed that members of the royal gendarmerie in the Chichaoua region apprehended an individual suspected of assaulting students en route to their baccalaureate exams in the commune of Lamzoudia and subsequently robbing them. The arrested individual was found to be in an advanced state of intoxication due to the consumption of hallucinogenic pills. During his arrest, he intentionally harmed himself by inflicting a wound on his wrist, necessitating his transfer to the regional hospital in Chichaoua and then to the university hospital center in Marrakech for essential medical treatment under strict police surveillance. Once his health stabilized, the suspect was placed under judicial custody, pending an investigation overseen by the relevant public prosecutor's office, to delve deeper into this incident and uncover any additional criminal activities attributed to him and his fleeing accomplice, which include motorcycle thefts and violent robberies in the region.
Additionally, the newspaper reported that a man in his fifties fell into an uncovered sewer hole in the Hay Al-Taqaddum neighborhood of Ibn Jirir, resulting in various degrees of bruising and injuries. Following the incident, he was transported to receive necessary medical assistance and examinations to ensure his recovery. Reports indicated that the victim, who suffers from poor eyesight, was unaware of the hole's presence in the middle of the street, leading to his unexpected fall.
Furthermore, "بيان اليوم" highlighted community demands for the repair of a hazardous hole threatening the safety of pedestrians in Sidi Bliout, Casablanca. A field inspection revealed a gap resulting from the uprooting of part of the pavement tiles and concrete frame, leaving a hole over 20 centimeters deep in a path frequently used by pedestrians. Local activists urged the relevant authorities, including the Casablanca municipal council and Sidi Bliout district, to take immediate action to repair the damaged sidewalk and ensure pedestrian safety, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
In a separate incident, the prohibition of traditional Amazigh "Idoukan" footwear from entering a hotel in Agadir has underscored a notable paradox between the promotion of cultural identity and practices perceived as exclusionary towards its symbols. This contradiction has reignited the debate regarding the presence of local culture within tourism institutions and the extent of respect for its components in spaces that are supposed to represent them. Cultural activists argue that any discrimination against traditional local attire or footwear sends negative messages to artisans and stakeholders interested in heritage, especially at a time when calls are growing to enhance and preserve Amazigh cultural heritage and its material and immaterial elements.
