Unauthorized Well Drilling Sparks Community Outcry
In the Moulay Ibrahim region, particularly in the Akzir area, a local resident has lodged a formal complaint with the Water Basin Authority in Marrakech, seeking urgent intervention regarding an unauthorized well that has allegedly caused significant harm to her own water well. The complaint, which has been made public, reveals the resident's concerns following the commencement of drilling activities for a new well near her own. The drilling operations began on December 25, 2025, and continued until January 4, 2026, along the provincial road No. 2010, located less than ten meters from her existing well. The newly drilled well reportedly reaches a depth of approximately 180 meters.
The complainant asserts that the drilling was conducted without the necessary legal permits, resulting in detrimental effects on her water supply. She describes how her well, which she relied on to meet her family's water needs, has since dried up. Furthermore, her complaint raises additional allegations regarding the circumstances surrounding the drilling process, including claims that the work was carried out during her absence from the country and that her surveillance camera was disabled during this period. These points are currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
Feeling a direct impact from this situation, the complainant has urged the Water Basin Authority to take appropriate legal measures, initiate an inquiry into the circumstances of the well drilling, and ensure that the requisite legal protocols were followed. She also requests that steps be taken to rectify the damages she has endured due to this unauthorized activity.
Copies of the complaint have been sent to various local officials, including the head of the local council in Tissalant, the area commander, and the public prosecutor at the Marrakech Court of First Instance, allowing them to review the matter and take action as necessary within their jurisdictions.
