Charity Leader Sentenced for Misappropriation of Funds
A significant legal ruling has been issued by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fes, which has sentenced the president of a charity organization to one year in prison for his involvement in the embezzlement of funds designated for the disabled. The case revolves around the misappropriation and mismanagement of public funds, leading to a conviction that underscores the ongoing fight against corruption in Morocco.
The convicted individual, who heads the Naim Association for Persons with Disabilities in Meknes, was found guilty of embezzling public funds and was sentenced to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of 10,000 dirhams. The court also ordered him to bear the costs of the proceedings without coercion, while declaring him innocent of other charges that had been brought against him.
The investigation into this case was initiated after the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Fes received a report from auditors at the Supreme Court of Accounts, which highlighted financial irregularities in the management of the charity. Following the receipt of this report, the public prosecutor specializing in financial crimes decided to open an inquiry, which revealed significant discrepancies in the association's budget, resulting in the legal proceedings against its leader.
