Court Ruling Against the President of the Regional Council of Taza
The Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance in Fez recently delivered a verdict regarding a high-profile case involving allegations of forgery and tax fraud. The case has seen the president of the Regional Council of Taza, identified as "A.B.", facing charges alongside eleven other defendants, including various contractors. The court's ruling was pronounced last Friday, marking a significant development in this legal matter.
The court sentenced the main accused, "A.B.", to six months in prison along with a monetary fine of 1,000 dirhams. Additionally, his brother, "R.B.", received a sentence of three months of imprisonment and a fine of the same amount. Other notable sentences included "H.Y." who was given five months in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams, with similar penalties applied to "E.H.". Another defendant, "L.H.", was sentenced to one month of imprisonment and fined 1,000 dirhams, while "M.H." faced six months and a fine matching that of the others.
In a surprising turn, the court acquitted several defendants including "J.B.", "A.G.", "A.A.", "M.A.", "H.R.", and another "J.B.", and ordered the return of the bail amounts previously deposited in the court on their behalf, excluding "J.A.". Furthermore, the convicted individuals were held responsible for the legal costs collectively. The court also decided to return the bail amounts to "R.B." and "L.H." after deducting their respective fines and costs.
Additionally, the judicial decisions included the destruction of invoices deemed counterfeit and seized from the main accused, while returning his mobile phone and the cash amount of 18,000 dirhams that had been confiscated during the investigation.
