Court Halts Transport of Pregnant Cows to Morocco Amid Animal Welfare Concerns

The Cologne Administrative Court has put a stop to the transport of 132 pregnant cattle destined for Morocco, following a decision by the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis not to grant the necessary permits. This ruling came after two transportation companies challenged the decision in court, seeking permission to proceed with the transfer of these animals.

The court highlighted serious concerns regarding the treatment of pregnant cattle in Morocco, noting the likelihood that these animals would face slaughter upon arrival. Evidence suggested that slaughter practices in Morocco frequently do not adhere to animal welfare standards, raising alarm over the potential for significant and irreparable harm to the welfare of the animals involved. Consequently, the court concluded that the transportation companies could not claim entitlement to the approval they sought for the transport.
