Court Ruling on Drug Trafficking Network
In a significant legal development, the Appeals Court in Agadir has amended a previous ruling related to a notorious drug trafficking network operating from the shores of Aklou. During a session held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, the court increased the prison sentence of the network's leader, identified as M.Z., from five years to seven years. Similarly, the sentence of another member, R.J., was elevated from four to six years. Meanwhile, A.B., was sentenced to four years instead of the initial two-year sentence.
The four defendants, who were arrested in May by the judicial police in Tiznit in collaboration with the DST (Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations), were found in possession of 2.5 tons of drugs prepared for international trafficking. They faced multiple charges, including drug possession, transport, and international trade without the necessary permits, as well as the possession of goods subject to taxes and duties.
As the case unfolds, results from the technical examination of the confiscated mobile phones are expected to be released soon. This evidence may reveal further connections to other significant cases, including one involving eight tons of drugs, in addition to the three tons seized by customs. There is also a pending investigation related to a traffic accident where one ton of cannabis was discovered, alongside other operations that remain unclear as of today.
