The Ordinary Criminal Chamber of the First Instance Court in Sefrou has announced the postponement of the trial of former world champion in full contact and kickboxing, Mustafa Lakhsam, to May 19. This decision comes in light of serious allegations concerning mismanagement and the misappropriation of public funds. The court's ruling on April 7 was influenced by a request from Lakhsam's defense team, who sought additional time to review case documents and prepare their defense strategies. Alongside Lakhsam, four other defendants who hold various positions within the local council of Imouzzer Kandar are also implicated in the case.
During the initial session aimed at addressing suspected financial and administrative irregularities concerning the management of the local council, Lakhsam was notably absent, while his legal representatives, other defendants, and several witnesses were present. The roots of this case trace back to complaints filed by opposition members within the Imouzzer Kandar council, who accuse Lakhsam of legal violations related to the management of temporary workers' lists. It is alleged that salaries and monthly compensations were issued to individuals identified as 'ghost workers' who did not provide any actual services to the municipality.
The Regional Judicial Police in Fez initiated an investigation into the matter, interviewing various parties involved. Reports indicate that 84 temporary workers have been receiving salaries and compensations without fulfilling their duties, as detailed in the complaint, which also mentions that some individuals have familial ties to certain municipal councilors.
