Crackdown on Illegal Drug Trafficking for Covert Abortions Leads to Arrests in Marrakech

Police Operations Against Illegal Pharmaceutical Trade

The Marrakech police have successfully apprehended three individuals aged between 22 and 33 during two separate operations targeting the illicit trade of counterfeit pharmaceuticals. These operations, which took place on a Monday evening, highlighted the alarming distribution of illegal medical substances that pose significant risks to public health. A digital surveillance initiative conducted by the specialized services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) played a pivotal role in identifying numerous advertisements on social media platforms that offered clandestine pharmaceutical products, purportedly aimed at facilitating abortion procedures.

The investigations revealed meticulous field verifications and technical analyses that led to the identification of suspects involved in this underground business, as well as the localization of their operational sites across various sectors of the city. This coordinated effort underscored the police's commitment to safeguarding citizens from the dangers associated with unregulated and potentially harmful medical products.

Seizures and Arrests Unraveled

The first police operation resulted in the capture of a private security guard within a public hospital, who was found in possession of expired medication that he intended to sell illegally. Authorities confirmed that he was dealing with pharmaceuticals that had been expired since 2018. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a stockpile of 166 units of the aforementioned expired tablets, alongside 1,968 units of various other pharmaceutical products.

In a second operation, two additional suspects were arrested in Marrakech for their involvement in the distribution of these dangerous products. During the raids, law enforcement seized 21 medical tablets that the suspects claimed were intended to aid in abortion procedures, along with two mobile phones used for coordinating their illicit activities and a sum of money believed to be proceeds from their criminal endeavors. All three suspects have been placed in police custody as investigations continue under the supervision of the appropriate judicial authorities, with efforts ongoing to uncover the full scope of this operation and identify any accomplices involved.
