In a significant move against the promotion of illegal pharmaceutical products, the security forces in Marrakech conducted two separate operations on the evening of March 16, resulting in the arrest of three individuals aged between 22 and 33. These arrests were made based on suspicions of their involvement in the marketing of smuggled medicines that pose serious risks to public health.
The operations were initiated after the National Police's information monitoring department detected advertisements on social media platforms offering smuggled pharmaceutical materials allegedly used to facilitate abortion procedures. Technical investigations and field inquiries led to the identification of the suspects.
The first operation led to the arrest of a private security guard at a public hospital, who was caught red-handed in possession of expired medical tablets dating back to 2018, which he was promoting as aids for abortion. A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the seizure of 166 tablets of these expired products, along with 1,968 units of various other pharmaceutical drugs and materials.
In the second operation, two additional suspects were apprehended in Marrakech while engaged in the distribution of 21 medical tablets claimed to serve the same purpose. The search also led to the confiscation of two mobile phones believed to have been used to facilitate this illicit activity, along with a sum of money presumed to be proceeds from these criminal acts.
The suspects have been placed under police custody as part of the judicial investigation supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office, aiming to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and identify any additional potential accomplices. Meanwhile, inquiries continue to apprehend anyone linked to these illegal activities.
