In a significant effort to combat the illegal promotion of pharmaceutical products, law enforcement agencies in Marrakech successfully conducted two separate operations on the evening of March 16. These initiatives resulted in the apprehension of three individuals aged between 22 and 33, who are suspected of being involved in the distribution of smuggled medications that pose a threat to public health.
These operations were initiated following the monitoring efforts of the national police's information vigilance department, which detected advertisements on social media platforms promoting smuggled pharmaceutical materials purportedly used to facilitate abortion procedures. Through technical investigations and field inquiries, the identities of the suspects were confirmed.
The first operation led to the arrest of a private security guard within a public hospital, who was caught red-handed in possession of expired medical tablets dating back to 2018. He was allegedly marketing these pills under the pretense that they could assist in abortion. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a total of 166 tablets of the aforementioned materials, alongside 1,968 units of various medications and pharmaceutical products.
The second operation resulted in the detention of two additional individuals in Marrakech, who were caught in the act of promoting 21 medical tablets claimed to serve the same purpose. During the search, two mobile phones, suspected to have been used to facilitate this illicit activity, were confiscated, along with a sum of money believed to be the proceeds from these criminal acts.
The suspects have been placed under police custody pending an investigative process overseen by the competent public prosecutor's office, aimed at uncovering all circumstances surrounding the case and identifying any other potential accomplices. Meanwhile, investigations continue to apprehend all individuals linked to these activities.
