The National Police have successfully dismantled three organized transnational criminal networks involved in smuggling and illicit drug trafficking, leading to the seizure of approximately 30 kilograms of cocaine sourced from Morocco. This significant operation was reported by the General Directorate of National Security on Thursday.
According to official statements, the Central Directorate for the Fight Against Illicit Drug Trafficking and its regional operational extension in Tlemcen played a pivotal role in this operation. They effectively disrupted the activities of these criminal networks, which are notorious for their involvement in the trafficking of illegal drugs. Alongside the cocaine, authorities also seized over 53 kilograms of cannabis resin, also originating from Morocco.
The first operation executed by the central anti-drug trafficking unit resulted in the confiscation of 29 kilograms and 620 grams of cocaine in Blida, where the drugs were meticulously hidden within parts of a truck. Additionally, the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Tlemcen foiled attempts to transport two shipments of cannabis resin coming from Morocco, successfully intercepting more than 53 kilograms of the substance.
These operations, carried out under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities, resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals associated with these criminal networks and the recovery of 11 vehicles of various types, including a truck. The suspects have since been presented before the public prosecutors at specialized judicial poles in Sidi M'Hamed in the capital, as well as at the courts of Bab El Ass and Maghnia in Tlemcen.
