Tétouan Celebrates Eight Decades of Artistic Creation

The modern art center in Tétouan is currently hosting a collective retrospective exhibition titled "80," commemorating the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Preparatory School of Fine Arts, now known as the National Institute of Fine Arts. This noteworthy event, inaugurated with the presence of prominent figures from the cultural, artistic, and diplomatic spheres, is organized by the Association of Fine Arts Graduates of Tétouan and pays tribute to an institution that has significantly influenced the history of visual arts in Morocco.

The exhibition features 75 works created by 70 artists from various generations trained at this esteemed institution, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the passing of Spanish painter Mariano Bertuchi, the school's founder. Through a chronological journey, the exhibition traces the evolution of artistic languages while highlighting the mechanisms of artistic knowledge transmission. It also explores the concept of the "Tétouan Plastic School," demonstrating how artists have successfully blended a shared heritage with creative individuality. The outcome is a vast panorama of Moroccan creation where continuity, innovation, and a constant reinterpretation of foundational references intersect.

Chichaoua: Art as a Means of Promoting Mental Health

Several hundred kilometers away, the Cultural Complex of Chichaoua is hosting a traveling exhibition that delves into the connections between artistic creation and mental health. Initiated by the "Chams Tildat for Mental Health" Association under the auspices of the National Federation of Mental Health and the Regional Coalition for Mental Health of Marrakech-Safi, this event aims to raise awareness about the importance of psychological well-being.

The exhibition showcases artworks from artists across different regions of the Kingdom, as well as creations by individuals experiencing mental health challenges or other disabilities. The pieces presented illustrate art's capacity to serve as a space for expression, dialogue, and resilience. Beyond its aesthetic dimension, the initiative seeks to combat prejudices and stigmatization surrounding mental health issues, reminding us that mental health is a fundamental right and a crucial element of social cohesion. The event also pays posthumous tribute to Abbas Saladi, a significant figure in contemporary Moroccan art. Following its stay in Chichaoua, the exhibition will tour several cities in the Marrakech-Safi region, including Marrakech, Benguérir, Safi, Youssoufia, and Tahannaout.
