Czech Foreign Minister's Official Visit to Morocco
During his inaugural official trip outside the European Union, Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka chose Morocco as his destination, marking a significant milestone in diplomatic relations between the two nations. This visit took place on Thursday in Rabat, where Macinka met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. In this meeting, Macinka reiterated the Czech Republic's unwavering support for Morocco's position regarding the Sahara, highlighting the importance of the kingdom's autonomy plan under its sovereignty.
Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties
In a press briefing following their discussions, Macinka emphasized that there is no alternative solution to the ongoing regional dispute, praising the positive initiatives undertaken by His Majesty King Mohammed VI aimed at fostering regional development, particularly in southern provinces like Dakhla. He stated, "We particularly appreciate the progress made in the region you call the Moroccan Sahara and acknowledge the solution you are implementing." Furthermore, he expressed a strong opposition to political correctness that obscures the reality of the situation, asserting that he fully comprehends the Moroccan officials' realistic stance when they refer to the region as the 'Moroccan Sahara'. Macinka's visit underscores Morocco's status as a strategic partner for the Czech Republic, focusing on enhancing political and economic cooperation, particularly in security and defense sectors.
This visit coincides with the Morocco-Czech Republic Economic Forum, aimed at reinforcing business connections and supporting Morocco's interests within the European Union. The discussions also touched upon cooperation in various fields, including military and defense industries, automotive, and aerospace sectors, further solidifying the bilateral relationship. Notably, Macinka's delegation included representatives from 25 major companies across various sectors, showcasing a commitment to expanding trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
