Debunking Misconceptions: Prison Administration Clarifies Educational Access for Inmates

The local prison administration of "Aoudaia" in Marrakech has firmly refuted claims circulating on various online platforms regarding the alleged deprivation of inmates, particularly those detained in connection with protests, from pursuing their education. The administration emphasized that such allegations are unfounded and lack any basis in reality.

In a clarifying statement received by the news site "barlamane.com" on Friday, March 13, 2026, the institution outlined the comprehensive awareness campaign it launched immediately after the concerned individuals were incarcerated in October 2025. This initiative aims to inform them about the registration processes and support them in the various educational pathways available.

The statistics provided in the statement revealed a significant engagement among inmates in academic pursuits, with a total of 88 requests submitted to the relevant sectors, resulting in the official registration of 76 prisoners. This group includes 21 university-level students, 29 in high school, and 26 in middle school.

Furthermore, the administration confirmed that several of these students have already successfully completed their university examinations and have received the necessary permissions to sit for the final exams as free candidates.

Regarding vocational training, the institution highlighted that 11 inmates have been registered in the available training programs, meeting the legal requirements, including seven juvenile detainees. It noted that those who were not registered are primarily individuals who had dropped out of school or had not expressed a desire to continue their education.

Additionally, the administration indicated that it continues to support even those who have been released, encouraging them to return to their educational institutions and showing a willingness to intervene should they face any administrative challenges.

This clarification from the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration aims to enlighten public opinion about the efforts made to ensure the right to education and training within prison institutions, which is considered a fundamental pillar of the reintegration program. It also serves as a response to what it describes as "claims" intended to mislead observers regarding the reality of educational care provided to this group of inmates.
