Chichaoua Community Leader's Court Case Adjourned
The Criminal Court of Appeal in Marrakech, presided over by the criminal chamber, decided on Thursday afternoon to postpone the case of the president of the rural community of Rahala in the Chichaoua region, who is facing serious charges related to the misappropriation of public funds and the insult of a legally organized body. This decision came after the court began discussing the details of the case, with the next hearing scheduled for the following week.
Previously, the Court of First Instance in Amentanout had sentenced the community leader of Rahala, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Metouka district in Chichaoua, to six months of actual imprisonment along with a financial penalty of 20,000 dirhams. These charges stemmed from allegations of embezzlement of public funds and insulting an organized body. The public prosecution at the Amentanout court had earlier decided to pursue the community leader while he remained free on bail, which was set at 15,000 dirhams, prior to his referral to court, where he was interrogated regarding the accusations against him.
The charges against him included defamation against a woman, insulting public officials, as well as misappropriating public funds. The origins of the case can be traced back to a complaint filed by several members of the municipal council, who accused the community leader of embezzling revenues generated from the use of an ambulance. These allegations were further supported by an audio recording attributed to him, containing derogatory statements about the security and gendarmerie institutions, in addition to vulgar language and insulting remarks towards the community's residents.
