Delta Air Lines Strengthens Leadership in Europe and Africa
Delta Air Lines has made a significant appointment by naming Matt Long as the new Managing Director for Europe and Africa. This strategic move comes as the airline aims to bolster its presence in the trans-Atlantic market, particularly with the approach of what is anticipated to be its busiest summer schedule to the region. In his new role, Long will be pivotal in ensuring that Delta consistently delivers the superior, reliable experience that customers expect when traveling across the Atlantic. The regions of Europe and Africa are not only crucial for Delta's long-haul demand but also contribute significantly to its premium revenue streams.
Long's responsibilities will include overseeing the coordination of commercial, operational, and customer experience initiatives across 35 markets in Europe and Africa. He will collaborate closely with Delta's teams in these regions and its joint venture partners, including Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic, to further the airline's long-term commercial goals. Additionally, he will play a key role in shaping major infrastructure and modernization projects at Delta's important hubs in Amsterdam, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, and London Heathrow, while driving customer experience enhancements throughout Europe and Africa.
Delta's trans-Atlantic network currently boasts more than 100 peak daily flights across Europe and Africa, with new routes including Seattle to Barcelona and Rome, as well as New York-JFK to Olbia, Malta, and Porto. Long's leadership will be crucial in ensuring that Delta continues to provide a consistent and premium experience for both leisure and business travelers, especially those connecting through Delta and its joint venture partners.
Perry Cantarutti, Senior Vice President of Alliances International, expressed confidence in Long's capabilities, stating, "Matt is a collaborative, forward-looking leader with a deep understanding of our global business and the partnerships that fuel Delta’s success." Long, who joined Delta in 2013, has played a significant role in enhancing customer experiences and streamlining operations, driven by his extensive expertise in consumer insights and customer experience strategy.
