The regional office of the Democratic Youth of the Left in Rahamna has announced its intention to closely monitor the electoral process in the region, highlighting what they describe as irregularities. They have emphasized that they will gather relevant information and share it with the public once the electoral events conclude.
This declaration came following the inaugural meeting of the regional office, which took place on the evening of September 7 in the city of Ibn Jirir. The meeting was dedicated to outlining the work program for the remainder of 2026, in addition to discussing the electoral process.
The regional office expressed its rejection of what it perceives as targeted actions against members of the Democratic Youth of the Left in various areas, citing judicial follow-ups and harassment. They specifically mentioned the case of Abdel Rahman Al-Ghissi, the deputy regional secretary of the Democratic Youth of the Left in Marrakech, as well as legal actions affecting several youth members.
The youth organization stated that the pressure on its activists would not deter them from continuing their struggle for what they term freedom, dignity, and social justice, along with defending the rights of popular classes. They reiterated their commitment to monitoring what they consider manifestations of corruption and mismanagement in public affairs.
Regarding the elections, the regional office asserted that the conditions for organizing the electoral process, from their perspective, infringe upon the principles of democracy and equal opportunities. They underscored that the battle for democratic transition, as they put it, is “much larger than merely being distilled into this process.”
The regional branch also declared its intention to initiate a political discussion in the Rahamna region, focusing on training, guidance, and fostering a shared political consciousness, particularly in light of what they described as “premature electoral campaigns.” They mentioned practices such as hosting lavish banquets and vote-buying, which they consider demeaning to citizens.
In a statement from Mohamed Amin Al-Rachid, the deputy regional secretary of the Democratic Youth of the Left in Rahamna, he clarified that the office has prioritized the issue of political imprisonment alongside training and political awareness formation, asserting that “political change cannot precede ideological change.”
In this context, the youth organization announced a political seminar to be held in the Rahamna region on September 16, featuring a member of the political bureau of the Democratic Left Federation, a member of the national office of the Democratic Youth of the Left, and a lawyer from the Marrakech-Warzazat Bar Association. The seminar will be titled: “The Electoral Process: Abstention versus Voting.”
