Efficient Transport and Delivery of Power Transformers

In a remarkable logistical feat, deugro has successfully delivered power transformers for a major substation expansion project. The journey commenced at a German manufacturing facility, where the transformers were meticulously prepared and secured in accordance with dteq’s advanced load-securing design. They were then transported to a nearby RO/RO (Roll-On/Roll-Off) jetty, where the transformers were carefully rolled onto a barge. This operation was conducted under the vigilant supervision of teams from both deugro Germany and dteq. Following the installation of seafastening, tailored to dteq’s engineered specifications, the barge set sail for a three-day journey along the Rhine River towards the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where the transformers were successfully discharged.

For the subsequent leg of the journey to Scotland, deugro chartered a specialized coaster vessel to transport the transformers. Each unit was loaded, stowed, and secured in alignment with dteq’s comprehensive lifting and load-securing plans, all overseen by deugro Netherlands and dteq personnel. After a timely three-day voyage, the vessel docked at the Port of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland. Here, deugro UK expertly managed the discharge process, utilizing tandem lifting operations to ensure a seamless transfer of the transformers.

Final Delivery and Installation at the Construction Site

To complete the final mile of this complex project, deugro UK organized the use of an 18-axle girder frame to transport the massive transformers to the construction site. With an impressive length exceeding 64 meters, this transportation required meticulous planning and execution to navigate the 74-kilometer route, particularly given the weight and sensitivity of the transformers. Prior to transport, the route was thoroughly surveyed to identify and mitigate potential obstacles and bottlenecks. Deugro's project managers were present throughout the transport, supported by escort vehicles and personnel positioned strategically at both the front and rear to ensure safety and efficiency. Ultimately, both transformers arrived safely and on schedule at the designated laydown area, where they were installed in accordance with the project timeline using a single-direction jack-and-skid operation. This successful delivery underscores deugro's commitment to precision and excellence in heavy lift logistics.
