Discover the 17th Edition of the International Documentary Film Festival in Agadir

The upcoming 17th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival (FIDADOC) presents a unique opportunity for film enthusiasts in Agadir and Moroccan aficionados of documentary cinema to immerse themselves in the finest international documentaries, showcased through approximately thirty films that will be screened in the presence of their respective creators. This year’s official selection features an official competition of feature-length films along with special screenings, highlighting several international premieres and a plethora of thought-provoking works that delve into the ongoing struggles of decolonization.

This edition will also introduce two programs designated as part of the **"Mediterranean Season 2026"** initiative. To commemorate the centenary of the legendary filmmaker **Youssef Chahine**, FIDADOC collaborates with the Institut des Afrique to offer a series of activities in both Agadir and Bordeaux. These activities will include screenings of restored films, DJ sets, and an engaging exploration of Chahine's life and work, which continues to inspire budding Egyptian filmmakers Yomna Khattab and **Namir Abdel Messeeh**, who will be featured in a mini-retrospective.

Entitled **"No Work is an Island,"** the second program allows us to present, in partnership with Lieux Fictifs and the National Center for Visual Arts, eleven short films created by female artists from the Mediterranean. These selections were made by students from the Fine Arts School of Marseille and inmates from the Baumettes prison in Marseille, showcasing a vibrant array of artistic expressions.

FIDADOC also serves as an essential gathering for anyone interested in writing, directing, producing, or distributing documentary films in Morocco. This year’s **"Documentary Hive"** will welcome a hundred aspiring filmmakers, including many project leaders eager to benefit from a space dedicated to exchange, networking, and professional growth. Since its inception in 2012, this initiative has significantly contributed to the emergence of a new generation of filmmakers from Morocco, neighboring countries, and their diaspora, with four of them being featured in the official selection of this 17th edition.

All screenings and activities at FIDADOC are free and open to the public, making it an accessible cultural event for all.
