easyJet Launches First African Base in Marrakech
In a significant move to enhance its operations in Morocco, easyJet has officially launched its first base on the African continent, located in the vibrant city of Marrakech. This strategic expansion involves the deployment of three aircraft, with plans to provide an impressive total of four million seats within the first year of operation. This initiative is not only a testament to easyJet's commitment to growth in the region but also reflects an ambitious strategy to strengthen Morocco's connectivity with key European markets.
New Routes and Job Creation
Aligned with a strategic partnership with the Moroccan National Tourism Office, this new base is poised to bolster easyJet's position as a leading airline in Marrakech. The introduction of six new routes is set to further enhance travel options. Among these are three winter routes connecting Marrakech to Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, along with additional routes from Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir, which will be launched in the coming months. Overall, this expansion will increase the total number of routes served by easyJet to 58, with a substantial focus on Marrakech.
This expansion is also a boon for the local job market, as easyJet plans to create approximately 100 direct jobs, alongside a multitude of indirect employment opportunities sparked by increased travel and tourism activities. Additionally, existing routes from Marrakech to cities such as Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg will operate year-round, marking a shift towards more stable, year-round service rather than seasonal operations.
Furthermore, easyJet holidays is set to enhance its offerings in Morocco, particularly in Marrakech, where travelers will have access to an expanded selection of hotels, catering to a range of preferences, including high-end options. Since its inception in Morocco in 2006, easyJet has transported nearly 20 million passengers and currently operates in five airports across the country including Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier. With this new base, easyJet is not just amplifying its operations but also reinforcing Morocco's status as a pivotal destination within its European network.
