easyJet Launches First African Base in Marrakech, Enhancing Connectivity in Morocco

easyJet has officially inaugurated its first-ever base in Africa, located in the vibrant city of Marrakech, marking a pivotal moment in the airline's expansion strategy within Morocco. This new operational hub, formed in collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office, is set to operate three aircraft and is anticipated to create approximately 100 direct jobs, along with thousands of additional indirect employment opportunities. The establishment of this base is expected to facilitate the airline's capacity to offer up to 4 million seats annually, significantly boosting travel options for passengers.

Expanded Route Network and New Destinations

With this expansion, easyJet is introducing six new routes for the winter schedule of 2026/27, which will bring the total number of routes served from Morocco to an impressive 58. New destinations include flights from Marrakech to Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, which are already available for booking. Additionally, the airline plans to launch routes from Nantes to Essaouira, Bordeaux to Agadir, and Birmingham to Agadir later this spring, further enhancing connectivity. Furthermore, several existing routes from Marrakech, including popular destinations such as Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, will now operate year-round, providing consistent travel options throughout the year.

Strategic Growth and Tourism Development

easyJet's expansion in Morocco is underscored by its service to five major airports within the country—Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier—having successfully transported over 20 million passengers since commencing operations in 2006. This growth not only reinforces easyJet’s position as a prominent player in the Moroccan aviation market but also aligns with the rising interest in Morocco as a leading leisure destination. CEO Kenton Jarvis highlighted the base's opening as a significant milestone, which will not only enhance connectivity between Morocco and Europe but also promote tourism and contribute to local economic development.
