EasyJet Launches Its First Operational Base in Africa, Expanding Routes in Marrakech

EasyJet's Strategic Move into Africa

In a groundbreaking development, the British low-cost airline EasyJet has officially inaugurated its first operational base on the African continent, located in the vibrant city of Marrakech. This strategic expansion marks a significant step for EasyJet as it seeks to enhance its presence beyond Europe and tap into the burgeoning Moroccan market, particularly in the aviation and tourism sectors. The new base will operate with three aircraft and is established in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourism Office, reflecting a commitment to fostering tourism growth in the region.

As part of its ambitious growth plan, EasyJet has unveiled plans to introduce six new flight routes for the upcoming winter season. Notable additions include direct flights connecting Marrakech with Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, alongside anticipated routes to Essaouira and Agadir originating from Nantes, Bordeaux, and Birmingham. This expansion will elevate EasyJet's operational network in Morocco to a total of 58 routes, with 30 of these routes centered around Marrakech. Furthermore, several existing routes are set to transition into year-round services, particularly those linking Marrakech with Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg. The airline's operations will cover five Moroccan destinations, namely Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier.

EasyJet's management has emphasized that the establishment of this operational base represents a pivotal milestone in its journey within Morocco. Since commencing operations in the country, the airline has successfully transported approximately 20 million passengers. This latest expansion is anticipated to bolster air connectivity, support the tourism sector, and create both direct and indirect job opportunities in the region, further contributing to Morocco's economic landscape.
