Ecuador and Morocco Set for Historic Clash Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

For the first time in history, Ecuador and Morocco will face off at the senior level, with their inaugural match scheduled for March 27, 2026. This encounter will take place at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, coinciding with the FIFA international window dedicated to preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The match is set to kick off at 15:15 Ecuadorian time and marks the beginning of a crucial testing phase for Sebastián Beccacece, who will be leading the Ecuadorian national team, commonly known as La Tricolor. This friendly match will serve as an essential opportunity for Beccacece to assess his squad ahead of the World Cup.

Recently appointed Moroccan coach Mohamed Ouahbi unveiled a roster of 28 players for the friendly matches against Ecuador and Paraguay. Notable names on the list include Brahim Díaz from Real Madrid, Achraf Hakimi from PSG, and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli from Real Betis. Additionally, the lineup features three players who were part of the Moroccan U-20 team that previously claimed a world championship under Ouahbi’s guidance: Baouf, Zabiri, and Yassine.

However, the squad is not without its significant absences. Nayef Aguerd is currently recovering from surgery for pubalgia, while Sofyan Amrabat has just returned to training after undergoing ankle surgery. Furthermore, the situation regarding Ayoub Bouaddi, who is currently undecided between representing Morocco or France, continues to spark discussions about his international future.

The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has confirmed that coach Beccacece will announce his squad on Saturday, March 21, with an eye on the upcoming matches against Morocco and the Netherlands. Both encounters are set to take place in Europe, with the first match in Madrid and the second scheduled for March 31 in Eindhoven at the Philips Stadium.

In addition, Kifisia FC has announced the inclusion of Moisés Ramírez as the goalkeeper for Ecuador, while Jordy Caicedo is set to return to the national team following an impressive scoring streak with Huracán in Argentina. These selections contribute to the excitement surrounding the forthcoming squad announcement, as Beccacece aims to solidify his tactical approach ahead of the World Cup.
