On March 26, Sebastián Beccacece, the head coach of the Ecuadorian national football team, held a press conference in Madrid ahead of an upcoming friendly match against Morocco, as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Beccacece described Morocco as a team of 'complexity,' acknowledging the challenges they present both in terms of individual skill and collective play. He emphasized the physical demands that their squad will face during the match, stating, 'We are well-prepared for the complexities that this rival brings to the table.'
In regard to the match, Beccacece confirmed that he would field his strongest lineup, distinguishing between friendly matches and qualifying games. 'We always put forth our best players, and we don’t differentiate whether it’s a friendly or a qualifier,' he explained, highlighting the commitment to excellence regardless of the match type. The Ecuadorian squad is set to debut in the World Cup on June 15 against Ivory Coast, in a group that also includes Curacao and Germany. The Argentine coach expressed his hope that his team could achieve something 'historic' in this World Cup, especially after their elimination in the group stage during the previous tournament in 2022.
'We are filled with enthusiasm, but it’s crucial that we remain grounded to achieve the objectives we aim for,' he noted. Ecuador is currently undergoing a generational shift, and Beccacece expressed his satisfaction with the promising young talent emerging within the team. He emphasized the importance of a 'good atmosphere' among the players, which he considers fundamental for success. 'Emotional connection always gives us an edge in vitality,' he remarked. 'The Ecuadorian family is built day by day, and we resolve our issues as a true family.'
