Strategic Collaboration to Enhance Defense Manufacturing in Morocco

EDGE, a prominent technology and defense conglomerate based in the United Arab Emirates, has announced a significant strategic partnership with Morocco's National Defense Administration (ADN), the authority responsible for defense acquisitions for the Royal Armed Forces. This memorandum of understanding, which was formalized at the Marrakech Air Show 2026, aims to establish a framework for identifying opportunities to locally produce high-performance small arms and aerospace engines in Morocco through collaborations with local firms.

This agreement marks a pivotal step towards localized manufacturing of small arms and aerial propulsion systems in the kingdom. EDGE has emphasized that this memorandum aligns with its commitment to meet customer requirements through regional partnerships. By working with qualified local enterprises, the group noted that they could bring production closer to clients, strengthen supply chains, provide lifecycle support, and contribute to the growth of sovereign industrial ecosystems.

Building Stronger Defense Capabilities Through Local Partnerships

Speaking about the agreement, Hamad Al Marar highlighted Morocco as a vital partner for EDGE in Africa, asserting that the memorandum embodies the group's alliance-based approach. He explained that this model relies on knowledge transfer, local production, and technology sharing, thereby creating partnerships that are mutually beneficial and fostering the growth of both local industries and EDGE's operations. He further noted that collaborating with Moroccan companies to localize the production of mission-proven firearms and advanced aerospace engines would help establish an industrial backbone capable of meeting the kingdom's defense requirements.

While the memorandum provides a structure for exploring local production opportunities, it does not specify production volumes, investment amounts, or implementation timelines, focusing instead on laying the groundwork for future manufacturing agreements.
