Waziri Isah, the Chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club based in Borno, has expressed confidence in his team's ability to triumph over Morocco's Raja Casablanca in the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup. In a recent interview held in Maiduguri, Isah emphasized that the club is thoroughly prepared for the upcoming continental showdown, which marks a significant moment in their sporting journey.
The first leg of the match is scheduled to take place on home soil before the Warriors embark on their trip to Morocco for the return leg, which is set to occur between October 16 and October 18, with the decisive match being hosted at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on October 24. Isah remarked, "We are preparing to face Raja Casablanca. We will play them at home and, a week later, follow them to Morocco for the return leg. We have no issues with Raja Casablanca; we are ready for the challenge ahead."
Focus on Youth Development and Player Welfare
Despite facing relegation challenges, Isah affirmed that the team's primary focus remains on excelling in the continental competition. He highlighted ongoing efforts to secure a return to the top tier of Nigerian football while also initiating a youth development program aimed at nurturing local talent for both El-Kanemi Warriors and the broader Borno football community. "We currently have about 15 young players training alongside the senior team, allowing them to learn from experienced players," Isah added.
Moreover, the chairman noted significant improvements in player welfare, including enhanced accommodations and match bonuses. Each player now enjoys personal rooms furnished with air conditioning, refrigerators, and televisions at the club's camp, reflecting a commitment to their well-being.
El-Kanemi Warriors' Technical Adviser, Emmanuel King, echoed Isah's sentiments, revealing that the team has ramped up its technical and physical preparations for the match. King emphasized a strategy focused on fitness, tactical understanding, and building team confidence. He stated, "We aim to adopt an attacking style in the first leg while respecting Raja Casablanca's extensive experience in African football.
