Legal Action Over Alleged Electoral Violations
In a developing story reported by akhbarona.com, it has come to light that Abdelhak Andilb, the regional secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces in Marrakech and a national council member, is set to appear in court on Monday, September 28. This follows a social media post in which he highlighted what he described as "electoral violations" occurring in Sidi Youssef Ben Ali.
Andilb, who is currently free on bail, faces allegations related to the creation of content deemed false or misleading via social media platforms, which is purportedly aimed at undermining the integrity of the electoral process. Additionally, he is charged with insulting a legally established authority. On the very day of the election, he was summoned by the judicial police, where he provided a statement before being referred to the public prosecutor's office. They decided to pursue charges against him and allowed him to remain free pending his court appearance.
This legal action against Andilb aligns with new legal frameworks regarding digital content associated with electoral processes. According to the revised Article 51 of Organic Law No. 53.25, which amends Organic Law No. 27.11 concerning the House of Representatives, any individual who produces content that includes false or misleading information intended to affect the integrity of electoral operations can face imprisonment of two to five years, along with fines ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 dirhams.
