EasyJet Flight Faces Medical Emergency Mid-Flight
On Friday morning, an EasyJet flight headed from Basel to Marrakech was forced to divert to Malaga due to a medical emergency involving a passenger on board. Witnesses reported that a doctor was called to assist the ailing individual, prompting an announcement in the cabin requesting medical help from anyone with the necessary expertise.
A 32-year-old witness from Basel, who was on the flight to celebrate a friend's bachelor party alongside nine companions, expressed disappointment over the unforeseen delay. "We had planned a short weekend getaway and now we'll have less time in Marrakech," he lamented. The urgency of the situation was underscored when a doctor on the flight responded to the call for help, receiving applause from fellow passengers as he stood up to assist.
Extended Delay and Successful Diversion
The flight was grounded in Malaga for approximately two hours while medical assistance was rendered. The witness described the wait as feeling like an eternity. Prior to the aircraft's departure from Malaga, the pilot made an announcement thanking the doctor, which was once again met with applause from the relieved passengers. "Fortunately, we didn’t have to return to Basel; otherwise, our trip would have been ruined," he added.
An EasyJet spokesperson confirmed the diversion, stating that the passenger received medical care upon landing and was subsequently transported to a hospital. The airline expressed regret for the delay caused by this incident, highlighting the challenges that arise in situations where passenger health is at risk.
