End of Chaos: New Regulations for Funeral Services in Casablanca

New Framework for Funeral Services in Casablanca

In a significant move aimed at regulating the funeral transport services in Casablanca, a new project has been finalized by the local council that is set to eliminate the longstanding disorder that has characterized this sector. For far too long, families grappling with the loss of loved ones have been vulnerable to unscrupulous operators who exploited their grief, often charging exorbitant and unlisted fees without any oversight or recourse available to the bereaved. This chaotic situation is on the verge of change, as the Casablanca municipal council prepares to adopt a detailed framework that will govern the management of funeral services. This framework, currently awaiting approval in an upcoming council session, outlines specific regulations concerning vehicle standards, pricing structures, operating hours, and penalties for non-compliance.

A New Ethical Charter for Dignity

The proposed document draws upon the provisions of Organic Law 113.14 concerning local governments and Law 54.05 which pertains to the delegated management of public services. It aims to deliver an unprecedented legal framework for the funeral service sector, reflecting a broader initiative to enhance the quality of local services in Casablanca while ensuring respect for users. Karim Glaibi, a member of the Casablanca municipal council representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), has emphasized the symbolic significance of this initiative, referring to it as an "ethical charter" designed to uphold the dignity of citizens during their most challenging times. He envisions this new framework as a means to bring an end to the era of "crisis brokers," intermediaries who have thrived amidst the distress of grieving families. By instituting these regulations, the council hopes to provide much-needed structure and protection for families in their time of need.
