Significant Progress on the Kénitra-Marrakech High-Speed Line
The construction of the Kénitra-Marrakech high-speed railway line is advancing steadily, marking a crucial phase in Morocco's transportation infrastructure development. The Chinese company, China Railway 20th Bureau (CR20), has successfully completed two significant acquisitions for lot 5, which encompasses a 35.4-kilometer stretch between PK 401+366 and PK 436+800. These acquisitions, announced on August 30, involve a rebar bender and a stone screener, valued at approximately 145,500 yuan (about 203,000 dirhams) and 232,760 yuan (around 325,000 dirhams), respectively. This procurement is a part of a broader initiative by CR20 to enhance equipment for the project, which includes various groundwork essentials such as excavation, rail bed preparation, drainage systems, fencing, construction of multiple structures, and utility relocations.
Major Civil Engineering Undertaking
Lot 5 of the project entails substantial civil engineering work, which includes the excavation of approximately 6.83 million cubic meters of earth and the filling of about 4.55 million cubic meters. The project also features six railway bridges totaling 1.384 kilometers, ten road bridges, six frame structures, and eighteen culverts. Since the beginning of 2026, CR20 has been actively seeking bids in China to source materials and equipment for this Moroccan project. This includes mechanical parts, machinery, formwork, and various components acquired from Chinese suppliers, which are then transported to Morocco. The bidding for the newly acquired equipment began in March and April, and their contracts symbolize a significant milestone in the logistical preparation for this phase, which is scheduled to span a contractual duration of 33 months.
