Enhancing Global Healthcare: The Impact of European Funding on Medical Training

Investment in Healthcare Training Across Multiple Nations

The duration of all projects is set to span 18 months, with a significant portion of funding directed towards improving healthcare systems in various countries. Morocco is poised to receive funding aimed at consolidating the achievements from the initial phase of the Averroes 2 project, which was previously supported by AECID. This new financial assistance will also facilitate the expansion of family medicine practices to additional health centers. A press release from FCSAI in November 2025 highlights that one of the project’s key activities includes providing training for nursing professionals, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare services.

Targeted Financial Support for Medical Education

In Mozambique, a total of €500,000 will be allocated to enhance the organization and management of the specialist medical training system, with the goal of increasing both the quantity and quality of trained specialists. A press release from the CSAI Foundation in February 2026 confirmed that, in collaboration with AECID, a six-month training placement will be arranged for two resident doctors from Mozambique at the University Hospital of Ourense. Ethiopia will receive €250,000 to co-finance two European projects: one focusing on strengthening specialized medical training and the other aimed at improving mental health, psychosocial support, and trauma healing capabilities within the Ethiopian healthcare and social system. This funding is part of a broader initiative between the European Union and Ethiopia, as detailed in the royal decree.

In Mauritania, €154,000 will be utilized for specialized medical training, while Egypt will receive €115,000 aimed at developing knowledge in various medical specialties within the country. Jordan is set to benefit from €147,000 designated for primary care related to non-communicable diseases among vulnerable and refugee populations. Furthermore, in Ukraine, €80,000 will be directed towards specialized medical training, justified by the ongoing war and the resulting medical needs, as indicated in the royal decree. Lastly, Bolivia will receive €160,000 to strengthen the national emergency and disaster health system, alongside enhancements in undergraduate and specialty medical training.
