Transforming Moroccan Universities into Strategic Development Partners
Samir Koudar, the President of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council, has emphasized the pivotal role that Moroccan universities have played since their inception in shaping regional and national elites. He stated that these institutions must evolve into strategic partners in the pursuit of comprehensive development. During a speech at the opening of the Scientific Week at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Koudar articulated that this dynamic transition necessitates aligning with the regional development strategy, enhancing it, and tailoring academic programs and scientific research to meet the region's demands. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of leveraging the outcomes of scientific and technological research to foster both economic and social development, as well as advancing professional bachelor’s and master’s degrees that address regional challenges. Koudar also called for a social contract between universities, political elites, and economic actors.
In this context, he proposed the creation of a roadmap to implement a regional vision that boosts scientific research and innovation. This vision should be grounded in a robust partnership between the region and the university, while also welcoming collaboration with institutional partners, the private sector, public administrations, and civil society. Such an approach aims to ensure that scientific research contributes to development, enhances regional attractiveness, and bolsters competitiveness.
It is worth noting that Marrakech is hosting a significant exhibition from April 17 to 25, showcasing research and innovation projects within the Innovation City at Cadi Ayyad University. This event highlights innovative projects and scientific results produced by the university's laboratories. The program also includes strategic sessions featuring economic and institutional partners, international meetings, a scientific lecture, a specialized scientific symposium, hackathons focused on scientific innovation, and various scientific competitions, including an Astronomy Olympiad. Additionally, there will be thematic workshops aimed at doctoral and master’s students concerning research, innovation, and the valorization of scientific results.
