Significance of Cyber Games in Combating Cybercrime
Marrakesh has become the focal point for the inaugural hosting of the "Cyber Games" and the "Digital Security Challenge" in Africa, reflecting the vital importance of international collaboration in the fight against cybercrime. This prestigious event, taking place from May 19 to 21, brings together around 160 professionals from law enforcement and cybersecurity sectors, hailing from nearly 50 countries. The initiative is spearheaded by the European Council in partnership with INTERPOL and Morocco's Directorate General for National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General for Information Systems Security (DGSSI).
This year's gathering marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the Cyber Games have been held on the African continent. It symbolizes the commitment of African nations to combat cybercrime on a global scale while highlighting the increasingly crucial role of international cooperation in addressing cyber threats across all regions. This event not only serves as a platform for knowledge sharing and capacity building but also emphasizes the need for robust cross-border collaboration to dismantle criminal networks leveraging digital technologies.

In addition to the Cyber Games, the European Council is actively engaged in various projects aimed at enhancing capacity building and preventing cybercrime. Their commitment to fostering international partnerships is further exemplified through the ongoing initiatives under the Cybercrime Programme Office (C-PROC), which provides essential resources and training to bolster cybersecurity measures across member states. Furthermore, the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime serves as a comprehensive framework that strengthens cross-border cooperation in tackling cybercriminal activities.
