European Union Initiates Support for Morocco's Cultural Sector
The European Union is gearing up to significantly enhance the cultural and creative industries in Morocco through the launch of a series of projects aimed at strengthening cultural cooperation between Morocco and Europe. This initiative is designed to empower young individuals in the fields of creativity and innovation, in collaboration with Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, alongside various national and international cultural institutions.
On May 26, 2026, a ceremony took place in Rabat to formalize three new project agreements, presided over by Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and attended by the European Union Ambassador to Morocco, Dimitris Tsantchev, along with several institutional partners.
These initiatives were signed with the Africalia Foundation, the German Goethe Institute, and the Hiba Foundation, as part of a broader program dedicated to supporting cultural and creative industries in Morocco. The program aims to enhance the framework of this sector, viewing it as a lever for economic development and social integration, particularly for the youth.
The projects include initiatives that will assist creators and emerging cultural enterprises, foster collaborative creativity with European partners, improve access to information, expand funding opportunities, and build professional networks.
The first project, titled "Cultural Acceleration Launch," led by Africalia in partnership with the Hiba Foundation and the French Institute, aims to support young enterprises in the cultural and creative field through programs that promote their economic sustainability.
The second project, "Hi-Fenn Connect, Create, Resonate," spearheaded by the Goethe Institute in conjunction with Ali Zaoua Foundation and Wallonie-Bruxelles, focuses on enhancing exchanges between Moroccan and European creative ecosystems, encouraging joint production and experience sharing.
The third initiative, named "Creative Morocco Gate," is managed by the Hiba Foundation and the Independent Radio and Television Association. This project aspires to establish a digital and professional platform to facilitate access to information, build networks, and support development opportunities within the cultural sector.
Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid emphasized that this initiative aligns with the royal vision to position cultural and creative industries as a driver for sustainable development, highlighting the importance of the Euro-Moroccan partnership as a model of cooperation founded on mutual respect and shared interests.
Meanwhile, EU Ambassador Dimitris Tsantchev noted that these efforts reflect the commitment of the European Union to support cultural initiatives that foster creativity and innovation in Morocco, ultimately contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
