Near 15,000 Runners Set to Participate in the Casablanca Marathon

The 17th edition of the Casablanca Marathon, set to take place on October 25, is anticipated to draw nearly 15,000 participants to Morocco's economic capital. Officially renamed the "Crédit du Maroc Casablanca Marathon," this year's event will feature three competitive categories: the full marathon (42.195 km), the half-marathon (21.097 km), and a team relay race comprising four members. This impressive turnout includes 12,000 competitors for the half-marathon, 2,200 for the full marathon, and 800 participants across 200 teams in the relay race. Under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, this edition marks a significant leap forward in the development of this prestigious marathon.

Innovations and Enhancements in This Year's Marathon

The organizers have announced a series of exciting innovations for this year's event, including the acquisition of the "Elite" label from World Athletics. This prestigious designation will attract around 30 elite athletes, both Moroccan and international, to participate. The total prize pool has also seen a remarkable increase, with rewards totaling 2.2 million dirhams, reflecting a 41% rise from the previous year, and a commitment to equal prize distribution among male and female competitors. Furthermore, the marathon route has been redesigned to showcase more of Casablanca's iconic neighborhoods and landmarks. Participants will benefit from a new mobile application that offers real-time tracking through geolocation features, allowing spectators to follow their favorite runners. A notable addition is the "Challenge 421," which invites individuals with disabilities to complete the final 421 meters of the marathon, crossing the finish line just like all other participants. The Marathon Village, located at the Sacré-Cœur space, will be open from October 21 to 24, providing an opportunity for runners to collect their race bibs while engaging in various activities centered around health and eco-friendliness.
