Since gaining independence, Morocco has witnessed substantial economic and social transformation, resulting in notable changes to its national territory, particularly through urban growth. Presently, the country enjoys a nearly balanced demographic distribution between urban and rural populations.
To effectively manage this urban development, the government has implemented various legislative, regulatory, and institutional measures, which include the establishment of Urban Agencies. The first of these agencies, based in Greater Casablanca, was founded in 1984, subsequently leading to the creation of the Agadir Urban Agency (AUA) in 1992, under Royal Decree No. 1-89-225, which promulgated law No. 20-88.
The Agency operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Urban Planning and Land Development and is governed by a Board of Directors, managed by a Director. This organizational structure ensures that the agency meets its objectives of efficient urban management and sustainable development.
