A Journey Through Generations and Healing

In Marrakech presents a poignant exploration of how we navigate our past, present, and future. This uplifting musical tells the story of women across three generations of a British family who grapple with themes of resentment and reconciliation during their time in Marrakech. The narrative unfolds as Jess, a prominent young climate activist facing personal turmoil, is sent to her grandmother’s riad in Marrakech. Here, she encounters a diverse group of storytellers, dreamers, and outsiders whose lives interweave with her own in unexpected ways. The clash of ancient Moroccan storytelling traditions with contemporary thought reveals hidden truths and promotes healing of old wounds. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Marrakech, the musical features a contemporary score that beautifully integrates Moroccan musical elements, creating an emotionally resonant exploration of connection, hope, and the journey towards finding one’s voice.

Sean Patrick Flahaven, Chief Theatricals Executive of Concord Theatricals and BMG, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “After witnessing a 15-minute excerpt of In Marrakech at the BEAM festival prior to the pandemic, I was eager to see and hear more. Following extensive writing and development, we are thrilled to continue collaborating with Kate and Alex to uncover the potential of this touching generational story and its captivating score.”

The cast will also feature musicians Samir Nacer on percussion and Nick Fitch on guitar, with backing vocals provided by Oliver Cave, Olivia Bloom, Charlotte Rose Dixon, Nic Myers, and Noah Van Renswoude. The creative team includes musical director Yshani Perinpanayagam, sound designer Hattie North, and dramaturg Saeida Rouass. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting project!
