Exciting Showdown at the Doha Diamond League: World Champions Unite

Doha Diamond League Set to Showcase World-Class Talent

The Doha Diamond League is gearing up for an exhilarating event on June 19, 2026, as it welcomes the full podium from the men’s javelin and men’s triple jump events held at the World Championships. Originally planned for early May, this much-anticipated meeting has been rescheduled, promising to feature some of the strongest athletic fields seen this season, including numerous global champions eager to compete.

In the men’s javelin, the stage is set for an electrifying renewal of rivalries, as the 2025 World Championships medalists are set to take their positions once more. The lineup includes reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and bronze medalist Curtis Thompson. They will be joined by the 2021 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who is making his season debut, and Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who has emerged as a standout performer in 2026. Pathirage, currently leading the world rankings, made waves with a remarkable throw of 92.62 meters in Rome earlier this month, which also catapulted him to eighth on the all-time world list. With six victories in his seven competitions this year, his only setback came during his inaugural Diamond League appearance in Rabat, where he narrowly lost to Peters.

Doha is well-known for its conducive javelin conditions, having witnessed numerous personal bests from athletes over the years. Notably, Chopra, Peters, and Jakub Vadlejch have all joined the prestigious 90-meter club at this very venue. Given Pathirage's current form, the combination of competitive spirit and optimal conditions could lead to spectacular performances once again.

Triple Jump and Other Thrilling Events Await

Another exciting reunion is set to occur in the men’s triple jump, featuring Tokyo podium finishers Pedro Pichardo, Andrea Dallavalle, and Lazaro Martinez. Additionally, they will be joined by world indoor silver medallist Jordan Scott and bronze medallist Yasser Triki, who have made impressive jumps of 17.66m and 17.32m respectively this season.

The women’s triple jump lineup promises to be equally formidable, with world indoor and outdoor champion Leyanis Perez Hernandez and Olympic champion Thea Lafond headlining the event. Saly Sarr, who earned a bronze medal at the world indoor championships, and Davisleydi Velazco, who has achieved victory in her last five competitions, including a 14.85m jump in Oslo, will also compete.

In the women’s 400m, Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino makes her Diamond League debut for the year against Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka and Cuba’s Roxana Gomez. The men’s 110m hurdles will feature world champion Cordell Tinch going head-to-head with Jamal Britt, who recently clocked a sub-13-second time at the Los Angeles Grand Prix. Emma Zapletalova, the world bronze medallist, aims to maintain her unbeaten streak in the women’s 400m hurdles, having already set a world-leading Slovakian record of 52.58 this season.

The men’s 200m will see Makanakaishe Charamba attempting to build on a recent personal best of 19.88 seconds, while the women’s 800m will spotlight Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma alongside fellow Ethiopian Nigist Getachew and the 2025 world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso. The men’s pole vault will showcase Greece’s world silver medallist Emmanouil Karalis, competing against Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen and USA’s Chris Nilsen, while local favorite Mutaz Barshim aims to improve on his best jump of 2.23m in the men’s high jump.

The Ethiopian athletes will be a formidable presence in both the women’s 5000m and 1500m events. Likina Amebaw, who recently claimed victory at the Rome Diamond League with a world-leading personal best of 14:18.41, will lead the 5000m field alongside the 2025 Diamond League champion, Fantaye Belayneh, and Medina Eisa. In the women’s 1500m, Birke Haylom, winner of the Shanghai Diamond League, will be joined by fellow Ethiopians Worknesh Mesele, Haregeweyni Kalayu, and Saron Berhe.

Finally, the men’s 3000m steeplechase will feature two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali returning to the track to face Olympic bronze medallist Abraham Kibiwot and 2024 Diamond League champion Amos Serem. This event encapsulates the excitement and competitiveness that the Doha Diamond League is set to deliver this season.
