Exploring Heritage: Maqdessi Children Discover Modern Morocco in Casablanca

On August 16, 2026, fifty Maqdessi children embarked on an enriching journey through the vibrant city of Casablanca, marking the conclusion of the first segment of their annual summer camp organized by the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency. This year’s theme, "Phare de paix" (Beacon of Peace), guided these young participants, aged 11 to 14, as they explored significant cultural and modern landmarks of Morocco under the auspices of King Mohammed VI and in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication. The program, which runs from August 12 to 26, is designed to foster cultural exchange and enhance the capabilities of these youths.

The day commenced at the iconic Hassan II Mosque, a marvel of Moroccan architecture that blends traditional craftsmanship with ancestral arts. The children were given an opportunity to admire the mosque's intricate designs and learn about its significance, serving as a symbol of Morocco’s architectural prowess. Following this enlightening experience, the group ventured to the Habous district, where they wandered through narrow alleys characteristic of Moroccan architecture, discovering traditional crafts such as weaving, silverwork, and leather production. This hands-on experience allowed some participants to bring back small souvenirs to their families, enriching their cultural journey.

Next on the itinerary was a visit to the Casablanca Finance City, representing a modern facet of Morocco focused on economic development and modernization. The group also enjoyed the scenic views along the Aïn Diab Corniche before concluding their first phase at the Cité Verte of Bouskoura, a significant point in their exploration of contemporary Morocco.

A Multifaceted Journey

On the preceding day, the children had the privilege of visiting the Royal Guard installations at the Mechouar of Rabat, where they explored facilities dedicated to cavalry, sports, and musical training, witnessing equestrian performances and visiting the Royal Guard Museum. Furthermore, they participated in a summer school held from August 12 to 14 in Skhirat, focusing on technology and aimed at fostering exchanges among Moroccan and Maqdessi children. The program is set to continue in Tangier, where the second phase will commence, including stops in Tétouan and Chefchaouen.

This annual summer camp, initiated in 2008 under royal patronage, is part of the social and educational initiatives undertaken by the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency. Its objective is to enhance the skills of young participants and promote cultural exchanges between Moroccan and Palestinian children, thereby reinforcing the bonds of understanding and peace among diverse communities.
