Invitation to Contribute to Special Issues on Natural Products

It is with great enthusiasm that we extend our invitation to you for contributing to a Special Issue titled “Molecular Studies on Natural Products: Anti-Inflammatory, Immune Response, and Anti-Bacterial Activities” in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS). The increasing prevalence of chronic inflammatory diseases, disorders related to immune dysregulation, and the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections present formidable challenges to global health. Natural products, sourced from an array of organisms including plants, marine life, fungi, and microorganisms, have historically been recognized as a prolific reservoir of therapeutic agents. Recent advancements in molecular biology, metabolomics, and bioinformatics have empowered researchers to elucidate the mechanisms of action of these natural compounds with unprecedented detail.

Understanding how these bioactive agents modulate inflammatory pathways, influence both innate and adaptive immune responses, and exert antibacterial effects is crucial for the development of next-generation therapeutics. This Special Issue aspires to showcase pioneering molecular research that synergizes the fields of natural product chemistry, immunology, and microbiology. We are eager to compile high-quality original research and review articles that delve into the molecular underpinnings of the anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antibacterial properties of natural products. The focus will be on molecular insights such as receptor binding, signal transduction, gene expression regulation, and structure-activity relationships, aligning perfectly with the journal’s emphasis on mechanistic studies and translational research within the science of natural products.

We welcome contributions that span various research areas, including but not limited to the following: the molecular mechanisms of natural anti-inflammatory compounds, the role of natural products as regulators of immune cell signaling, antibacterial mechanisms of phytochemicals, structure-activity relationship studies of bioactive natural molecules, and omics-based approaches for elucidating mechanisms of action. We are particularly keen on studies that investigate the immunomodulatory effects of natural compounds in models of infectious and inflammatory diseases, as well as ethnopharmacological leads validated by molecular techniques.
