Exploring the Depths of Poetry: A Collective Study on Abdel Fattah Kilito

A new collective book titled “Kilito and Poetry” has been published by the Publications of the House of Poetry in Morocco, focusing on the works of the prominent Moroccan academic and literary critic Abdel Fattah Kilito. This insightful volume arises from an academic seminar held in Marrakech, organized in coordination with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Faculty of Arabic Language at Qadi Ayyad University. During this seminar, Kilito delivered a lecture entitled “The Necessity of the Unnecessary”.

The book “Kilito and Poetry” features critical studies by distinguished researchers. Among these contributions is “Liberating Poetry from Literature” by Abdel Salam Benabdallah, alongside “Abdel Fattah Kilito and Philological Knowledge of Literature” by Mohamed El-Hirch. It also includes “Abdel Fattah Kilito: Biography and Journey” by Hassan Bahraoui, as well as “Al-Ma'arri and the Labyrinth: Kilito’s Approach to Missed Encounters and Opportunities” by Nabil Mansar. Another significant piece is “The Logic of Interpretation in Kilito’s Work” by Mohamed Ait Laamim.

Furthermore, the book encompasses studies such as “A Reading of the Silence of Copies: How Did the Copyists Become Poets?” by Hassan Mouden, and “The Art of Reading Between the Lines” by Ismail Aziyat. Additional contributions include “Poetry of the Maqamat: Towards a Critical Dialogue with Abdel Fattah Kilito” by Said Al-Awadi, “The Gift of Al-Ma'arri” by Mohsen Atiki, and “Kilito Between the Mystery of Al-Ma'arri and the Suspicion of Al-Sarougi in the Labyrinths of the Nights” by Iman Khayati. There is also an intriguing study titled “Delving into the Labyrinths of Discourse: How Did Kilito Read Al-Ma'arri?” by Faisal Abu Talif.

The collection further includes “Abdel Fattah Kilito: A Poet in the Mood of Narrative” by Ghada Al-Sanhaji, “Abdel Fattah Kilito: A Tale of Love, Poetry, and Forgetting” by Azeddine Nzihi, and “Kilito and the Specter of the Poet in the Tale” by Munir Al-Sarhani. Lastly, “The Paths of Poetry in the Interpretation of Classical Literature” by Khalid Belkassem rounds out this comprehensive anthology.
