In the autumn of 2025, as the Morocco Royal Tour reached its peak, we found ourselves in Rabat for the second leg of this prestigious international show jumping circuit, where we spent four unforgettable days. This experience allowed us to witness remarkable sporting moments while immersing ourselves in the diverse offerings of Morocco's administrative and political capital, which beautifully blends beach life with traditional architecture. As autumn settles in France, equestrian aficionados, especially those passionate about show jumping, have a perfect excuse to extend their summer holidays before the onset of winter.
Established in 2010 under royal patronage, the Morocco Royal Tour has become a staple in the international sporting calendar, spanning three consecutive weekends across distinct Moroccan cities: Tétouan, Rabat, and El Jadida. For over fifteen years, the Morocco Royal Tour, often referred to as MRT, has exemplified Morocco's commitment to enhancing high-level equestrian competitions while establishing a sustainable presence on the global sporting stage.
Advancing Equestrian Excellence in Morocco
Badre Fakir, the General Director of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports (FRMSE), emphasizes the tour's mission: "The Morocco Royal Tour not only promotes our Moroccan riders but also encourages them to compete against top show jumpers who travel for the three weeks of competition. Furthermore, it showcases our infrastructures. Today, we take pride not only in having highly competitive Moroccan riders but also in the quality of our facilities. Every year, improvements are made; for instance, the main arena in Rabat features a sub-irrigation system. It is crucial to continue progressing annually to attract foreign riders and promote our tour. We know that attracting riders hinges on three key factors: substantial prize money, excellent grounds, and exceptional hospitality for the horses with quality stabling facilities."
While the reception of the horses is paramount, the unique warmth of Moroccan hospitality adds a distinct charm to the Morocco Royal Tour. In Rabat, in 2025, we personally experienced this spontaneity and friendliness that is characteristic of Morocco.
The first leg of the Morocco Royal Tour takes place in Tétouan, hosted by the Royal Guard's facilities, while Rabat serves as the headquarters for the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports. The second leg holds a special significance as it features a 4* Nations Cup, the only one organized on the African continent. As Badre Fakir elaborates, "Today, Rabat's stage is particularly important as it is rated 4*, serving as a stepping stone to the 5* level." Beyond the Nations Cup, Rabat also hosts a 4*-W Grand Prix, qualifying for the World Cup circuit. Thus, in just one weekend, the event plays a crucial role in the international calendar and is vital for the development of high-level equestrian sports in Morocco.
