Exploring the Psychological Dimensions of Taxation in Morocco

Understanding Taxpayer Sentiments in Morocco

The recent study conducted by Mohammed El-Mir and Khalid Bouzelmat delves into the psychological aspects surrounding taxation in Morocco, shedding light on Moroccan taxpayers' beliefs and emotional responses towards tax policies. The research employed a descriptive methodology, collecting data from 100 adult participants aged between 20 and 40 years. These participants responded to a qualitative questionnaire comprising four targeted questions aimed at unveiling their psychological representations and feelings regarding taxation. The analysis revealed a complex landscape of perceptions among Moroccans regarding tax obligations, with a noteworthy inclination to view taxes as a collective responsibility intertwined with public interest, yet simultaneously characterized by perceptions of unfairness. This duality suggests that Moroccans, much like individuals from other nations, share similar sentiments and representations towards taxation and tax policy.

As the study indicates, while there is a recognition of the necessity of taxes for societal benefits, the feelings of injustice and the burden that taxes impose on citizens are prevalent. This study not only enriches the understanding of taxpayer psychology in Morocco but also contributes to the broader discourse on how tax policies are perceived globally. Such insights are crucial for policymakers aiming to foster a more equitable tax system that resonates well with the public sentiment.
