Exploring the Sheep Market: Spanish Farmers Visit Morocco and Ceuta

Sheep Farmers from Spain Explore Moroccan Markets

Members of the Association of Sheep Breeders of the Lojeña Breed from the Poniente Granadino region (Acrol) embarked on a significant journey to Morocco and Ceuta with the primary aim of visiting the vibrant markets of Chef Chaouen, Tétouan, Tangier, and Castillejos. This trip was designed to allow the farmers to compare the pricing and quality of lambs available in these Moroccan cities, which are in close proximity to Ceuta. The exploration of these markets is essential for understanding the competitive landscape and gauging the factors influencing pricing in the region.

During their visit, the farmers observed that the prices of lambs in these Moroccan markets were comparable to those found in Ceuta, where a total of 5,000 lambs have been sold this year. This observation highlights the interconnected nature of the livestock market across borders and the shared economic dynamics that influence pricing for agricultural products.

Notably, the lambs from the Lojeña breed are primarily concentrated within the livestock operations of the Sánchez Brothers, who are based in Hacho, Ceuta. Their dedication to the breed has earned them a significant reputation due to the unique characteristics of their sheep, which are prized for their quality. Such recognition is vital for farmers looking to improve their market standing and attract more buyers.
